My First Act in Office
By John Murphy, Candidate for Congress
The very first thing that I will do upon being elected to the House of Representatives will be to introduce a bill of impeachment charging George W. Bush and Richard Cheney with high crimes and misdemeanors.
This president, along with his vice president and surrounded by a small clique of political fanatics calling themselves "neoconservatives" has lied to this nation about the reasons for our invading Iraq. Contrary to international law and US treaty, he and his vice president are responsible for the torture and murder of political prisoners and have, contrary to domestic law, ordered the National Security Agency (NSA) to eavesdrop on conversations of American citizens without court approval. George W. Bush and Richard Cheney have disgraced their office and our nation and have run roughshod over domestic and international law.
Bush and Cheney told one lie after another in the lead up to the invasion of Iraq. The US press, compliant in his crimes, acted as a cheerleader for each new atrocity while a complicit Congress marched in lockstep behind this grotesque cortège.
Bush and Cheney who constantly maintain that they are above the law have repeatedly violated the law. Whether it is the death of over 100,000 innocent Iraqis, the death and torture of political prisoners or the violation of the civil liberties of American citizens, they have committed, in the words of our Constitution, "high crimes and misdemeanors". This is the constitutional standard for impeachment and removal from office. These two men cannot be permitted to continue with impunity endangering our constitutional system of government. They must be impeached immediately and once having been removed from office they should be tried and sentenced for their crimes.
