ARCHIVE OF PAST ALERTS AS THIS CAMPAIGN HAS CONTINUED TO HELP PREVENT AN ATTACK ON IRAN FOR YEARS:
June 2010 Statement of Hudson Valley Peace Organizations:
We the undersigned, as representatives of key peace groups in the Lower Hudson Valley, wish to vehemently, strongly oppose both sanctions and military action against Iran.
Further, we urge that the United States immediately begin working toward making the Middle East a nuclear weapons free zone. To this end, the United States should ask Israel to join the UN Non-Proliferation Treaty.
We urge all US appointed and elected officials to end verbal assaults against Iran. We encourage our neighbors in the Lower Hudson Valley to support a peaceful resolution to the controversy around Iran¹s nuclear program.

This page was begun when Cheney-Bush was president. Now it's Biden-Obama, and Vice President Biden has publicly stated that Israel has the right to attack Iran. The forces in Washington pushing for an attack on Iran have not gone anywhere, and Obama and Biden have not dismissed them. Preventing an attack on Iran thus far has been one of our greatest accomplishments. This is no time to let up. The other side won't.
Should the U.S. strike the nation of Iran we will engage in dramatic nonviolent direct action, risking arrest, and hopefully filling up the jails. At 5 p.m. on the same day, or at 9 a.m. the following day (whichever happens sooner) we will go to our nearest places of government (state or federal buildings), and block all entrances until removed by law enforcement. We will make our appearance and the action itself as dramatic as possible.
WHY NOT ATTACK IRAN? WMD possession is not grounds for war. The US has more of them than any other nation. There is no evidence that Iran has nukes. NIE in 2005 said 2015 was the earliest Iran could have them. In 1976 President Ford offered Iran the nuclear technology it is now trying to develop in the face of US opposition. In 2003, Iran proposed negotiations with the United States with everything on the table, including its nuclear technology. Bush refused. Aiding a nation against a foreign invasion is not grounds for war. The US aided France against Germany. If the motivation for attacking Iran was aid to Iraqi resisters, the U.S. would be attacking Saudi Arabia. The motivation for attacking Iran was laid out in 2000 by the PNAC, and as early as 1992 in defense planning guidance -- written for then-Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney by then-Pentagon staffers I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, World Bank Chief Paul Wolfowitz, and ambassador-nominee to the United Nations Zalmay Khalilzad. The people promoting an attack on Iran are the same ones who lied to us about Iraq. And they've been lying to us about Iran for many months, including claiming that Iran kicked out IAEA inspectors, which the IAEA denied; claiming North Korea was helping Iran with nukes, which N Korea denied and evidence refuted; and blaming incidents in Iraq on Iranian-trained fighters – claims that the facts have conflicted with. Bush's threats and provocations are boosting support in Iran for a militaristic leader. Bombing will do the same. If you want to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons, keep the inspectors in. Inspections worked with Iraq. Attacking Iran would be a catastrophe for Iranians, Israelis, Iraqis, Americans, and others. War is a decision for Congress, not for an American monarch.
