Stop Mass Incarceration by the United States, at Home and Abroad!

By War Criminals Watch - Posted on 29 December 2011

Across the country in the next two weeks, we will be marking the 10th anniversary of the U.S. prison at Guantánamo with protests, film showings, talks, and benefits.  We do this for:

171 prisoners still in Guantánamo, even though most were cleared for release by the Bush regime.  Read about one:
Holiday Thoughts for Omar Khadr, Still Held at Guantanamo by Andy Worthington.

2000+ prisoners at Bagram Prison in Afghanistan, held without habeas corpus rights, with no end in sight:
U.S. to build new massive prison in Bagram by Glenn Greenwald.

Those unknown and uncounted, swept up across the globe in the boundless U.S. "war on terror," held in secret prisons in Thailand or
Romania, handed over to US torture partners Jordan, Syria or Egypt, or simply disappeared.

We do not protest solely to remember the past, or even solely to hold the Bush torture team accountable.  We are looking at what our government is doing now, including the National Defense Authorization Act, which takes effect January 3, allowing for the U.S. military to hold prisoners, including citizens, indefinitely without charge on order of the president.

That which you do not resist, you will learn -- or be forced -- to accept. But we don't have to accept the crimes of our government. Join in!
