1) STOP THE BUILD UP TO WAR ON IRAN
The western powers seem to be doing everything possible to increase tension
with Iran. Yesterday EU ministers imposed new sanctions on top of those agreed
by Canada, the US and Britain last week. David Cameron promised yet another
round in January, meanwhile he has expelled Iranian diplomats in response to
protests at the British Embassy in Tehran, closing one of the last channels
for negotiation.
A British minister recently promised that further unspecified 'appropriate
measures' will be taken against Iran. The recent IAEA report showed there is
no conclusive evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, but this kind
of western brinkmanship can only antagonise the Iranian regime.
Stop the War is planning a national campaign against an attack on Iran in the
next months. The campaign starts with a public rally in London on Monday.
Public Meeting: Don't Attack Iran

2) NEARLY 400 DEAD... BRING THE TROOPS HOME FROM AFGHANISTAN
In his recent book on the occupation, The Ghosts of War, Jonathan Steele
estimates at least 20,000 Afghan civilians died as a result of the invasion of
the country in 2001 and tens of thousands more have been killed since. As the
Western powers gather to discuss Afghanistan's future with handpicked Afghan
delegates in Bonn on Monday, the killing goes on and resistance to the
occupation has spread to the North and West of the country. 391 British
soldiers have now died in this losing war, including 6 in the last fortnight.
Nowadays these deaths go virtually unreported in the media.
Stop the War is asking all our supporters to get ready to protest when the
figure reaches 400 by preparing vigils, naming of the dead ceremonies and
other events to publicise and protest this pointless killing.

4) NOT TO INTERVENTION IN SYRIA
Just weeks after winding up the devastating bombing raids on Libya and
anointing a loyal government there, NATO is turning its attention to Syria.
Though they are publicly ruling out military action, the political moves are
depressingly familiar. Sanctions, calls to isolate the regime, the courting of
the opposition by the Western powers, and now moves towards a buffer zone
imposed by NATO member Turkey.
The experience of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya all show that far from bringing
democracy, Western intervention leads to crippled societies. Stop the War
opposes any Western intervention in Syria. We have a statement for circulation
at http://bit.ly/uAGBiT
If there is an attack, we will call an immediate protest the same evening
outside Downing Street. -- - Login or register to post comments
