Occupy Peace House: An Indoor Occupation in Washington, D.C., For As Long As It Takes

The Freedom Plaza Occupation in Washington D.C. has officially moved
into Phase 2 to become One Occupation with Three Locations.

One of the three locations is what has been known in D.C. for years as
Peace House.  While the hoped-for mission is to raise enough funds to
purchase Peace House (one major investor is already on board to fund
half the purchase price) as an education, research and organizing
center for the Occupy Movement, the current owner has agreed to a
short term lease-option while investors are sought.

In the first two weeks of becoming a part of the occupation, Peace
House has already become a bustling movement center hosting activities
such as:  Backbone Campaign occupied a large conference room to build
props and rehearse staging for the Occupy the Courts action;  Occupy
Freedom Plaza hosted a film 'Occupation 101' with Palestinian and
Israeli speakers; a Japanese group from Okinawa held a meeting;
organizers for the Roe v Wade anniversary met and created materials
for their action... In the future, planning for a Peace & Justice
Library, a research center, movie nights and teach-ins are already in
motion.

To celebrate moving in, and to raise funds for utilities and rent,
Peace House invites the community to join them for a Housewarming on
Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 7-10 p.m.

Following Tom's set, Occupiers living at Peace House will speak about
the history of the house and the significance of saving this historic
site, and about future projects.
