March 19: The Anniversary Iraqis Can Never Forget.

By War Criminals Watch - Posted on 20 March 2013

by World Can't Wait Director Debra Sweet              Early today, I'll be driving to Highland Falls, NY, near the US Military Academy at West Point, the site of many protests over George Bush's Global War on Terror.  Six friends will be sentenced tomorrow in local court there for protesting Obama's expansion of the war on Afghanistan in 2009, and because it's the tenth anniversary of "shock and awe" we feel compelled to throw up a protest.

The protests and other events marking this 10th anniversary will be small, dramatically so in relation to the scope of the vast war and occupation waged by the U.S. on Iraq.  I respect and salute all of you who still stand against this war, including those who weekly vigil and rage against the U.S. war machine. There is no substitute for publicly getting into the streets and saying NO - not in our name, defying one's own government's crimes.  It's not the only thing to do; but without such actions, people don't see a pole of opposition erected that means anything beyond talk.

So, rage on, and
raise your voices this week. Find protests in Chicago, New York, and more.

Today is a time to look at what the war meant for the people whose lives were destroyed by it.  We've collected some key sources of information, and will be posting more.  We'd like to hear from you.  What are you thinking ten years after the U.S. attacked Iraq?
