Marathon Terror: Homegrown or State-Sponsored?

by Stephen Lendman

Boston's marathon is the modern world's oldest. It's the best known. It's an annual tradition. It's been held since 1897. It's one of six World Marathon Majors.

Thousands of runners participate. Professionals and amateurs compete. Hundreds of thousands of spectators watch it. They do so throughout its 26.2 mile route.

In 1996, a 62-year old Swedish participant died of a heart attack. In 2002, a young woman runner succumbed to hyponatremia.

On Monday, April 15, two explosions killed three. Over 100 others were injured. Some lost limbs. The incident occurred near the event's finish line. It's in the heart of downtown Boston's Copley Square.

Obama vowed to render "the full weight of justice" against those responsible. (M)ake no mistake," he said. "We will get to the bottom of this. And we will find out who did this. We'll find out why they did this."

"We’re continuing to monitor and respond to the situation as it unfolds, and I’ve directed the full resources of the federal government to help state and local authorities protect our people, increase security around the United States as necessary, and investigate what happened."

It's official. On Tuesday, Obama called what happened "terrorism."

An unnamed White House official called the incident "an act of terror."

White House security was increased. Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan said:

"Out of an abundance of caution, we have expanded our security perimeter at the White House complex. It is not unusual to expand or contract these security perimeters."

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg tightened security. He said 1,000 NYPD employees have counterterrorism assignments.

Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and other major US cities initiated similar measures. They remain on high alert.

Boston's Copley Square was evacuated. Public transportation was disrupted. Logan International Airport suspended flights for several hours.

A fire and possible explosion occurred at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. No injuries were reported.

Police Commissioner Edward Davis said a preliminary investigation indicated a mechanical fire. Minor damage was reported. A bomb squad was deployed as a precautionary measure.

The fire broke out around the same time as the marathon blasts. Both incidents appear unrelated.

Media scoundrels jumped to conclusions. They always do. The Washington Post was typical. It headlined "An act of terror." An editorial said:

"The nation has seen its share of foreign terrorism and homegrown terrorism attacks alike (the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta come to mind)."

A New York Times editorial headlined "Bombs at the Marathon," saying:

"It was clear this was not a random event but another concerted effort to kill and maim innocent Americans."

The "marathon will be back next year….No act of terrorism is strong enough to shatter a tradition that belongs to American history."

The Wall Street Journal said "once again (the incident) rais(ed) the specter of terrorism on American soil."

"Bombs at the marathon show the need for antiterror vigilance."

Other print and broadcast reports echoed similar sentiments. Conclusions are quickly reached. Feature stories headline "terrorism." They'll continue for days.

Media scoundrels decide straightaway. It’s standard practice. Doing so heightens fear. Reports suggested the FBI declared the bombings a terrorist act.

At issue was it homegrown, imported, or state-sponsored?

No one knows for sure. False flags are an American tradition. Wikipedia calls them "covert operations designed to deceive the public in such a way that the operations appear as though they are being carried out by other entities."

Merriam-Webster says they're "big lies." They're "deliberate gross distortion(s) of the truth used especially as a propaganda tactic."

9/11's the big lie of our time. So-called "crazed Arabs" had nothing to do with it.

In numerous books, articles and lectures, David Ray Griffin provided convincing evidence. He separated myth from reality. So did others.

The official story doesn't wash. It's the biggest lie of our time. Post-9/11, "war on terror" lawlessness followed.

Bush and Obama wage it on humanity. It goes on abroad and at home. Multiple aggressive direct and proxy wars continue.

Executive Orders, signing statements, as well as National and Homeland Security Presidential Directives established unconstitutional policies.

Continuity of Government (COG) instituted coup d'etat authority. So did unitary executive and presidential diktat empowerment. Other extrajudicial measures advance them.

Repressive laws were enacted. The Patriot Act alone established unchecked presidential power. Rule of law principles were subverted. Constitutional freedoms were undermined.

Numerous other enacted measures made America a police state. Full-blown tyranny's a hair's breath away.

False flags facilitate what follows. They heighten fear. They invent threats. They're pretexts for militarism, global wars, occupations, police state repression, and other types of national security state extremism.

"Supreme emergencies" are declared. Repressive laws are enacted. America's global agenda is served. Unchallenged dominance is sought.

Propaganda supports national interests. Media scoundrels regurgitate official lies. They do so ad nauseum. Fingers point the wrong way. Independent governments are targeted.

Coup d'etats and extrajudicial assassinations are ordered. US citizens aren't safe. Drones facilitate killing on the cheap. They do so with computer keyboard ease.

Homeland dissent is challenged. Enemies are invented and targeted. Global wars become official policy. Homeland repression follows.

It's too early to know whether Boston's incident was homegrown, imported or state-sponsored. What matters most is what's next.

Expect Washington to take full advantage. Doing so heads America toward full-blown tyranny. It's already a hair's breath away.

A Final Comment

On April 16, Health Ranger editor Mike Adams said the official Boston Marathon story's beginning to unravel.

"It's now becoming clear that members of the Boston bomb squad had advance notice of the horrific bombing" to follow.

As bombs exploded, an eyewitness said officials announced "this is just a drill."

"This logically means they were all informed of (one) beforehand." It doesn't surprise.

"According to, a University of Mobile’s Cross Country Coach said there were bomb-sniffing dogs at both the start and finish lines, long before any explosions went off."

"They kept making announcements on the loud speaker that it was just a drill and there was nothing to worry about. It seemed like there was some sort of threat, but they kept telling us it was just a drill."

"The official story sounds" more like "cover" for what happened, said Adams.

"Why did the Boston bomb squad know all this in advance?"

Obvious questions go unanswered. Who benefits most? Who stands to lose? Post-9/11 events best explain.

Expect the worst ahead. Expect escalated Big Brother surveillance. Expect stepped-up police state repression. Expect more global wars. Expect greater than ever new world order harshness.

For the marathon bombing or bombings to have been imported, there'd need to be an importer. Now, I wonder who that party might be? Hmmm, Washington, perhaps?  It wasn't Usama(h) bin Laden or affiliated Al Qaeda, or the Taliban, who were responsible for the 9/11 attacks, the White House administration knew this, Dick Cheney said in an interview provided on the Tony Snow Show on Fox that the White House never had any proof that bin Laden was responsible and never claimed that he was.  While the latter part of what Cheney said is a blatant lie, since it, and the Taliban's purported refusal to hand over bin Laden, another lie, constituted the White House's justification for recourse to war on Afghanistan; well, Cheney at least said that they never had proof that bin Laden was in any way responsible for the attacks.  And bin Laden very frankly denied responsibility multiple times in September 2001, of course following the attacks, during interviews; apparently more than once with Al Jazeera and then with the Pakistani Daily Ummat on Sept. 28, 2001; unless that date is the date of the BBC translation and the interview occurred some days earlier. According to the posting of the translation at, the interview seems to have been on 9/28.

That's the interview given to the Tony Snow Show.

"Bin Laden says he wasn't behind attacks"

September 17, 2001

DOHA, Qatar (CNN) -- Islamic militant leader Osama bin Laden, the man the United States considers the prime suspect in last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, denied any role Sunday in the actions believed to have killed thousands.

In a statement issued to the Arabic satellite channel Al Jazeera, based in Qatar, bin Laden said, "The U.S. government has consistently blamed me for being behind every occasion its enemies attack it.

Asked Sunday if he believed bin Laden's denial, President Bush said, "No question he is the prime suspect. No question about that."

The Daily Ummat interview is longer and rather very redundant, repetitive, but while this could cause it to nearly put a reader to sleep there's something very positive that can be drawn from or understood about it and it's that bin Laden was fully consistent; never contradicting himself.

That's something that we can't truthfully say about Washington, which is repeatedly contradicting itself, committing hypocrisy, as well as hegemony, as if it's a sport to be very regularly practiced and while keeping it's opponents deceived into thinking that their govt is honorable and would never lie to the population.

Obama vowed to render "the full weight of justice" against those responsible. (M)ake no mistake," he said. "We will get to the bottom of this. And we will find out who did this. We'll find out why they did this."

It's a very dark farce; extremely, rather thoroughly, hypocritical.

How often has Washington or state law enforcement had such dogs at public events over the past year and more? I haven't heard or read of any examples prior to this Boston Marathon case; well, except for the 1995 OKC bombing, but then that wasn't about a public event being held. Locals witnessed police or some law enforcement people with bomb-sniffing dogs present prior to the truck McVeigh drove and parked a distance (I've read from 60 to 90ft) from the Fred Murrah building, while parking the vehicle in the street. And it's apparently well enough proven that the massive destruction to that whole side of the building wasn't caused by the exploding truck bomb, which apparently didn't create a large hole in the street and caused extremely little damage to buildings on the other side of the street. The explosion was outward rather than inward, but the truck was peculiarly parked outside, out on the street. Well, news reporters got news from results of an investigation that was conducted inside the building that a total of either 2 or 3 unexploded bombs were found inside; inside what remained of the other side of the building, I guess.

The woman who wad director of HUD (Housing and Urban Development) or of HUD offices inside the Fred Murrah building recounted during interviews on the Alex Jones Show that she, as well as other employees at the building, witnessed McVeigh frequently going upstairs to the US Army floor. And she said that people who worked there normally always were friendly, saying hello, good day, ... to each other, whiole McVeigh was cold as ice. The important thing as that the woman can't be written off as just some conspiracy theory nut since she was director of HUD.

A US military, Army I guess, general and who's very expert with explosives analyzed the destruction of the building and said that this couldn't have been caused by the McVeigh truck bomb, for the truck was too far from the building for the explosion to have this much power as the energy waves hit the structure; and, the explosion was outward, not inward. The truck bomb couldn't cause the building to blow outward.

It's not analogous to the Boston Marathon bombing, but the parts about law enforcement being present with bomb-sniffing dogs definitely causes a recall of what's been alternatively reported about the OKC bombing.
