Audio: David Swanson on Egypt with Coy Barefoot

By davidswanson - Posted on 28 January 2011

1.28.11 Best-selling non-fiction author David Swanson joins Coy to discuss the revolution taking place in Egypt. Cairo is literally burning, and today’s conversation discusses the political state which lead to this uprising and exactly what is going on. Swanson describes the protests as “inspiring,” but also is not convinced of the need for these heavy doses of violence.

It didn't sound that way from David Swanson's interview with Tighe Barry of Code Pink and who's in Egypt, but while I haven't yet read or viewed any of the reports at AlJazeera yet, titles seem to indicate that there is some serious violence. The page also has an article for "Thousands protest in Jordan", and there's a live blog for the events in Egypt.

There definitely has been unfortunate violence and this is not about only throwing some rocks.

It's not long, but it's heartening. However, I certainly hope that if the Egyptian people do win their cause for democratic and economic rights, then they won't war on Israel, but will work to help Palestinians in every way possible without war.
