The Asymmetrical Info War

By jimstaro - Posted on 08 December 2010

It's too bad all this didn't start during the previous administration, there are so many questions and just think of the added proof as to the War Crimes and much more we would have!! Though in this country we don't do Accountability and allow our extremely wealthy walk around free with the blood wealth they gained, and we don't even tax them nor their corporations!!

Why WikiLeaks Is Winning Its Info War

A wanted page for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on the Interpol website, Dec. 7, 2010

Dec. 08, 2010 - There was a time when WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's voluntary surrender to the British authorities might have put an end to the crisis created by the Internet provocateur's dissemination of tens of thousands of state secrets. But in the upside-down world of transnational crowdsourcing unleashed by WikiLeaks, in which thousands of activists around the globe can be rallied to defend and extend its work, Assange's arrest is a win, not a loss, for his organization.

The asymmetrical info war initiated by the WikiLeaks dump of diplomatic cables is all about spectacle — the more Assange is set up by world powers, the more powerful his own movement becomes. "The field of battle is WikiLeaks," wrote John Perry Barlow, a former Grateful Dead lyricist and founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the First Amendment advocacy group, in a message to his followers. "You are the troops." WikiLeaks admiringly forwarded the post to 300,000 of its own followers. As the U.S. and other governments attempted to close down WikiLeaks over the past week, those "troops" have fought back. And so far, it doesn't look like much of a contest. {read rest}

"Wikileaks and the Worldwide Information War
Power, Propaganda, and the Global Political Awakening
"

by Andrew Gavin Marshall, Dec. 6th, 2010

www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=22278

The essay is probably the strongest defense for what Wikileaks is doing that anyone will be able to find; very thorough, in all respects.

But very much about "global awakening". It's essentially what the whole article is about, and he excerpts some of what imperialist "intellectual" and schemer Zbigniew Brzezinski specifically has written about "global political awakening". Brzezinski describes this very well, in terms we'll surely all agree with, but he also explicitly says that this is a serious threat for the imperialist ruling elites, who, he says, must act to prevent the global movement of awakening people(s) from growing further, uniting, and increasing in opposition to the imperialist elites. His "prescription" for this is for the imperialist ruling elites or class, the global one, of which the US is still at the top, to establish "global governance", which is a big step towards establishment of [a] global government.

It's an excellent essay, lengthy, certainly longer than I could need to clearly understand what it says; but it's excellent and definitely is a strong defense for the work of Wikileaks, as well as all activists against imperialist power, et cetera. A stronger defense surely isn't possible. He's very thorough; covering all of the applicable or possible angles or viewpoints. And the last part of the essay is entertaining, providing analysis based on a few or several of the cables that Wikileaks has released.

He provides a good explanation for how to treat the fact that the cables released are not really "revelations". He explains very well how to treat this fact in a constructive, beneficial way, rather than negatively. We can certainly say that there aren't "bombshell" revelations, but should also consider how the release of he cables can and must be put to good, constructive use. And he explains some other things everyone should be sure to be or become informed about in order to strengthen activism against the imperialist forces.

He's definitely right and [thorough].

Re. the Time.com article:

The full copy provides a link to for the transcript of an interview Julian Assange provided to Time and his response to the third question in the transcript contains two extremely bogus and naive, uninformed statements; but I've also read excerpts of the rest of the transcript at another Web site, and what was excerpted was fine or good. He evidently very naive, uninformed about the Middle East, as if knowing only about its existence, but he definitely is right on other matters definitely pertinent for honest and ethical politics.

The Time.com article is not worth paying attention to. Even imperialist Zbigniew Brzezinski wrote much better about "rallying the troops" of activism and anti-imperialism, while doing so as a warning to the imperialists that they needed to become stronger (see the piece by Andrew Gavin Marshall, above). The Time authors refer to Wikileaks as "rogue", rather than referring to the governments as rogue. And the authors wrote of the US military correcting its technical failure in a way that the phrasing certainly seems to be praising this.

Time.com is another media of imperialists.

Anyone who wants to seriously read about the "asymmetrical info war" should definitely read Andrew Gavin Marshall's essay. It may not use this phrasing, but a reader only needs to keep it in mind and will be able to see that it's what the essay describes, while also explaining how to strengthen it for the activists opposed to the imperialist rulers, et cetera.
