1) AFGHANISTAN'S WORST YEAR: IT'S TIME TO GO

The number of deaths of Nato forces in Afghanistan during 2010
has now exceeded those killed in the whole of 2009, making this
the bloodiest year for Nato forces since the war began nine years
ago. Afghan civilian casualties are also at record levels.

The central problem for the anti-war movement is how we bridge
the gap between the bulk of public opinion which opposes the war
and wants the troops out, and the failure of the political
establishment to reflect this opinion, as demonstrated by the
recent vote in parliament when only 16 MPs voted against the
continuation of the war.

This is why the national Time To Go demonstration in London on
Saturday 20 November, called by Stop the War, CND and the British
Muslim Initiative, is so important.

It takes place on the same day as the Nato summit in Lisbon and
it needs to reflect the scale of majority opinion opposing the
war -- consistently polling at over 70 per cent.

The mainstream media is not going to do us any favours when it
comes to publicising the demonstration. We have to ensure that we
activate all available networks to ensure that no one can say
after 20 November that they were not on the demonstration because
they didn't know about it.

The recent moblilisation against Tony Blair's book signing
events, and the emergency demonstrations called following
Israel's barbaric attack on the Gaza aid flotilla in May, showed
how effective the anti-war movement can be in publicising and
building support for its activities.

Stop the War is encouraging all its supporters to publicise the
Time To Go demonstration wherever they can -- through friends and
work colleagues, trade unions, mosques, churches, community
groups, college and school student organisations, peace groups,
Afghan groups, aid and refugee groups etc.

Updates on the demonstration will be posted regularly on the Stop
the War website: http://bit.ly/FeWuS

4) VIVA PALESTINA CONVOY ON ITS WAY TO GAZA

The fifth Viva Palestina aid convoy, left London on 18 September,
led by two survivors from Israel's attack on the Mavi Marmara in
May. It will join two more convoys from Casablanca and Doha, as
200 vehicles converge on Gaza, bringing desperately needed
resources and aiming to break the barbaric Israeli siege.

5) LIB-DEM AND LABOUR PARTY CONFERENCES

Stop the War held a very successful fringe meeting at the Liberal

debate on withdrawing British troops from Afghanistan.

lives in Manchester, Stop the War has a fringe meeting at which

6) SCHOOL STUDENTS AGAINST THE WAR

School Students Against the War, which led the protests in 2003
when thousands of students walked out of school against the war
in Iraq, is holding a national meeting in London on Sunday 26
September. All school students are welcome.

As with the war in Iraq, we now have a government waging war
despite it being opposed by the vast majority of people in
Britain.

The theme of the school students' meeting is Why the War in
Afghanistan Matters and discussions will include a strategy for
mobilising active involvement of school students in the campaign
to bring the troops home.

MARCHMONT COMMUNITY CENTRE
60-62 MARCHMONT STREET LONDON WC1N 1AB
