The Great Divergence

Finally a few, way to few, are taking about what has been going on and the reasons for! And not much of that growth at the top is being invested for growth in the economy!

Story Washington {R}'s Did Not Want Us To Know

What that administration did was known by the leadership in the Congress as they rubber stamped all the administrations wants, the emptying of the treasury for their war of choice, they had to as they never sought Congressional Hearings and blocked those sought by the minority party!

Biggest Document Leak in History Exposes Real War

21 October 2010 - Twelve weeks ago the Bureau of Investigative Journalism was given access to the biggest leak of military documents in history.

These documents formed a database of nearly 400,000 military logs recorded over six years of the Iraq war and covering the years 2004 to 2009.

With Wars Come Responsibilities

Only ‘fixing’ the VA needs. and has always needed since Korea, is for the Country to Actually Pony Up for the Results of their Wars of Choice, and a strong dose of reality, thus causing the Agency to actually become the Best in the World in Care, Research, Training and more and saving money by doing so!!!!

The Way We Treat Our Troops

October 22, 2010 - You can only hope that the very preliminary peace efforts in Afghanistan bear fruit before long. But for evidence that the United States is letting its claim to greatness, and even common decency, slip through its fingers, all you need to do is look at the way we treat our own troops.

The idea that the United States is at war and hardly any of its citizens are paying attention to the terrible burden being shouldered by its men and women in uniform is beyond appalling.

"Other Than Honorable"

Troubled war vets featured in film

Oct. 22, 2010 - Three young Orange County veterans of the Iraqi War who suffer from combat trauma are featured in a new documentary that captures their attempt to reintegrate into society and stay out of trouble with the law.

Available for viewing online for free, "Other Than Honorable" chronicles the men's experience with Veterans Court, a program offered at the Community Court building in Santa Ana that gives offenders a chance at recovery instead of going to prison.

Many veterans suffering from combat trauma lash out criminally, and the three men featured in the documentary, known only by their first names Adam, Zach and Thomas, run afoul of the law. {read rest}

Wikileaks: U.S. Order not to Investigate Iraqi Torture

Done In Our Names, and guess who "Really Won't Forget!", the now hollow words this Country uses as to 9/11, hollow in most of the World!

WikiLeaks Iraq files reveal torture

Al Jazeera's access to leaked documents reveals secret US military order not to investigate Iraqi torture.

22 October 2010 - It is the biggest leak of military secrets in history. Al Jazeera has details of nearly 400,000 classified US documents. They are the secret Iraq files, leaked to whistleblower website WikiLeaks.

The Apollo Clean Transportation Manufacturing Action Plan

22 October 2010 - Ten years into 21st century, our national transportation policy remains shaped by a law passed in 1956. Three years into a global economic recession, the U.S. economy continues to languish. With millions unemployed, it is time to put Americans back to work rebuilding our public transit systems, roads, and bridges; manufacturing advanced transportation vehicles; and laying the foundation for long-term economic recovery.

A "Chinese WikiLeaks"?

China activists plan WikiLeaks-style site

Human rights groups and WikiLeaks itself warn that Government Leaks project is naive given China's strict secrecy laws

22 October 2010 - Attempts to create a "Chinese WikiLeaks" project could result in lengthy jail sentences for internet users who send sensitive materials, critics warned today.

The Government Leaks project says it believes that sharing secret documents will increase transparency and lead to political reform.

An unidentified representative said in an email that around 60 people, including well-known bloggers, were working on the project, although the need for anonymity makes it impossible to verify that claim. The site asks for donations to the project as well as documents.

Dr. David Kelly: UK releases secret file

Does this end the rising voices calling for another Inquiry, it shouldn't, it should heighten them and add in an Inquiry into the first Inquiry with what has recently been coming out, especially as that was under the Blair government!

UK releases secret file on weapons scientist death that confirms he took his own life

22 October 2010 - The British government Friday released a formerly secret autopsy report in an attempt to end speculation that the 2003 death of a government weapons scientist at the centre of a controversy over the Iraq War was not a suicide.

The lengthy report reaffirms that David Kelly slit his wrist after he was exposed as the source of a British Broadcasting Corp. report that accused then Prime Minister Tony Blair's office of "sexing up" prewar intelligence to justify the 2003 invasion.

Major WikiLeaks press conference in Europe coming up.....

WikiLeaks plans 'major' announcement in Europe

Just minutes ago - 22 October 2010 - The WikiLeaks website appears close to releasing what the Pentagon fears is the largest cache of secret U.S. documents in history — hundreds of thousands of intelligence reports compiled after the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

In a message posted to its Twitter page on Thursday, the organization said there was a "major WikiLeaks press conference in Europe coming up." WikiLeaks has not commented publicly on the imminent announcement.

Their disclosure would be the most massive leak of secret documents in U.S. history, and defense officials are racing to contain the damage.

Clinton talking to Ottawa about Khadr case?

Khadr lawyer won't confirm plea talks involve Clinton

Oct. 21, 2010 - Lawyers for Canadian terror suspect Omar Khadr are refusing to comment on media reports that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is personally arranging a deal to resolve the case.

Nate Whitling, a Canadian lawyer for the Toronto-born Khadr, steadfastly refused to speculate about Clinton's involvement in a possible deal that would see the 24-year-old plead guilty to murdering a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan in exchange for serving most of his sentence in Canada.

"I'm not commenting about the talks," Whitling told CTV.ca in a telephone interview from his Edmonton office. "If there's a deal it will become apparent in court on Monday."

Seeking Justice for Rachel

Rachels parents were living and working in Charlotte NC at the time of her killing and working with Pro-Peace Activist as the drums of the war of choice, Iraq, were beating louder and louder!

Parents Seek Justice From Israel In Activist's Death

Sebastian Scheiner/AP: Cindy and Craig Corrie, seen earlier this month in Jerusalem, are suing the Israeli Defense Forces to get a full accounting of their daughter's death. Rachel Corrie was crushed by a bulldozer as she tried to stop it from demolishing a Palestinian home in 2003.

October 21, 2010 - Cindy Corrie says she'd given little thought to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict until her daughter Rachel became immersed in it.

Making Veterans a Priority 2007-2010

Yesterday I received an e-mail from the Communications Director of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Kristal DeKleer. Thank you Kristal for sending this out to the e-mail list, will be passing the information on as I'm sure others will as well.

Also yesterday I used the following in a few posts as related to recent Veterans Administration press releases:

Let me tell ya folks, if the so called repubs, still haven't met one true one in a couple of decades, pick up Any Seats let alone take the House what Shinseki and his Great Admin have been doin will come to a Screeching Halt on many and curtailed on others! This is the Most Pro Active VA in my lifetime!

Soldiers suffer. America sleeps

War rages. Soldiers suffer. America sleeps

October 19, 2010 - How is it possible for a country to be at war on two fronts for nearly a decade and not be plunged into constant fits of epic soul-searching? Whatever trick of light makes it possible to pretend "We, the People" have nothing to do with wars waged in our name overseas also blinds us to its tragic legacies at home.

In a little more than two weeks, a nation suffering from willful amnesia about Iraq and Afghanistan will either vote for new representatives who share their myopia -- or retain those incumbents most skilled at exploiting it.

If polls are to be believed, these wars are too low on the list of voter priorities to prompt much turnout on Election Day. Although more than a trillion dollars has been spent on the wars, that's an unthinkable abstraction to the vast majority of us.

“pinned against the wall” myth

End of the “pinned against the wall” myth

18 October 2010 - Chris Ames did not agree with the use of military force in Iraq, but I am consistently impressed by his fairmindedness and the thoroughness with which he compiles information on the British decision to join the US-led invasion at his Iraq Inquiry Digest.

“A Complete Non-Issue”

National Security “A Complete Non-Issue”?

15 October 2010 - Campaign events this week highlighted again how little thought conservatives are devoting to national security, including the two wars our nation is fighting - and how dangerously extreme and ill-informed they can be. From Sharron Angle's ludicrous proposal to privatize the Department of Veterans Affairs to Christine O'Donnell's confusion between Iraq and Afghanistan, the Tea Party candidates seem to subscribe to Rand Paul's comment that foreign policy "is a complete non-issue" - a shocking commentary in wartime. When the issue does come up, conservatives find themselves split between polar extremes: neoconservative interventionism and extreme isolationism. As Pat Buchanan described it, it's the "Tea Party vs. War Party." {read rest}

A Protector of Human Rights?

Lion and the Lamb: U.S. no longer a protector of human rights

October 19, 2010 - The idea that individual human beings have rights, claims upon their society or government, and that these rights are universal, has been evolving since the time of Hammurabi's Code 4,000 years ago. In 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights sought to clarify this idea for our own time.

The subject of human rights, however, is still a controversial one, and our nation's reputation as a "human rights defender" has come under threat. At the heart of this controversy is the CIA's "extraordinary rendition" program which under President Bush sent terrorism suspects abroad to be tortured. Recently this became the subject of a lawsuit.

Veterans Administration: Life-Saving Campaign

VA Taking Life-Saving Campaign to Streets

October 19, 2010 - WASHINGTON – This week, nearly 1,200 life-saving advertisements will go up on city buses, bus shelters, rail and subway stations across the Nation displaying a message of hope for those who have served their country and may be facing an emotional crisis. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is advertising its Suicide Prevention Hotline through Jan. 9, 2011.

No on 23: Stop the Dirty Energy Proposition

Please join Global Green in OPPOSING Proposition 23 which will appear on the California ballot on November 2, 2010.

Two Texas oil companies are spending millions to push Prop. 23, a deceptive initiative that would kill California clean energy and air pollution control standards.

Four years ago, with support from businesses, labor, environmental and health organizations California passed a clean air law – AB 32 – that holds polluters accountable and requires them to reduce air pollution that threatens human health and contributes to global climate change. Global Green successfully fought for language in AB 32 that provides direct benefit to low income communities (Section 38565 of the legislation). {rest found here}

Veterans Group Files FEC Complaint Against The Chamber:

Foreign Funds Pose 'Clear And Present Danger' To U.S. Democracy

18 October 2010 - Nonprofits, now emboldened to raise and spend unlimited amounts of money on with no disclosure this election cycle, are beginning to face complaints at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Federal Election Commission (FEC). While most of these complaints have come from campaign finance reform groups, a veterans organization is jumping into the fray.

On Monday, the Veterans' Alliance for Security and Democracy (VetPAC) filed an FEC complaint against the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to the FEC, alleging that the organization's potential use of foreign funds for political purposes represents a "clear and present danger to our democracy." From the letter to the FEC, obtained by The Huffington Post:

Feds Confirm Mumbai Plotter Trained With Terrorists While Working for DEA

Oct. 16, 2010 - Federal officials acknowledged Saturday that David Coleman Headley, the U.S. businessman who confessed to being a terrorist scout in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, was working as a DEA informant while he was training with terrorists in Pakistan.

Federal officials, who spoke only only on background because of the sensitivity of the Headley case, also said they suspect a link between Headley and the al Qaeda figures whose activities have sparked recent terror threats against Europe.

Needed Additions to Stimulus Package

Would also help if Congress adds another tier to the Unemployment or somehow force, let the phony bush job creating taxcuts expire, the Private Sector to start really investing that extreme wealth they've built on the work of the rest to flow as the 'c'apitalism of the past some thirty years was the con sold when implemented!

Possible Additions to Obama Stimulus Package

Ditch Army-Deserter Policy

In-light, especially with what has come out over the years, in the Chilcot Iraq War Inquiry, other Countries Government Inquiries and reports still coming out especially as to Iraq but also Afghanistan, Canada should do more then just re-think their policy! The U.S., as to same, should take another look at those who once again fled to Canada and allow them to return if they so wish, with no criminal charges hanging over them!

Activists urge Ottawa to ditch army-deserter policy

The grand jury also indicted Blanca Contreras, who helped the man run the allegedly fraudulent charity the U.S. Navy Veterans Association. Airport police Friday arrested Contreras at the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, authorities reported.
