70 Congress Members Sign Letter to Bush: We Will Only Vote for Money to Bring Troops Home - Finally Something Done Right!

[weaknesses: deadline of January 2009 will mean a lot of dead bodies first; "protection" of troops means nothing if not ongoing fighting and killing; while some congress members say "redeploy" means withdrawal, for many it actually means redeploy; we have more mercenaries and other contractors in Iraq than troops and this does not mention them; and there's no clear statement here that the only way this will work will be for congress to not send Bush any Iraq funding bills at all. Nonetheless, this is aimed in the right direction.]

Dear Mr. President:

Seventy House Members wrote in July to inform you that they will only support appropriating additional funds for U.S. military operations in Iraq during Fiscal Year 2008 and beyond for the protection and safe redeployment of our troops out of Iraq before you leave office.

Now you are requesting an additional $45 billion to sustain your escalation of U.S. military operations in Iraq through next April, on top of the $145 billion you requested for military operations during FY08 in Iraq and Afghanistan. Accordingly, even more of us are writing anew to underscore our opposition to appropriating any additional funds for U.S. military operations in Iraq other than a time-bound, safe redeployment as stipulated above.

More than 3,744 of our brave soldiers have died in Iraq. More than 27,000 have been seriously wounded. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed or injured in the hostilities and more than 4 million have been displaced from their homes. Furthermore, this conflict has degenerated into a sectarian civil war and U.S. taxpayers have paid more than $500 billion, despite assurances that you and your key advisors gave our nation at the time you ordered the invasion in March, 2003 that this military intervention would cost far less and be paid from Iraqi oil revenues.

We agree with a clear and growing majority of the American people who are opposed to continued, open-ended U.S. military operations in Iraq, and believe it is unwise and unacceptable for you to continue to unilaterally impose these staggering costs and the soaring debt on Americans currently and for generations to come.

Sincerely,

It would be very nice if he really gave a damn what the 70 said wouldn't it! But as we already know he is the Decider, translated meaning Dictator, over many, many dead bodies he plans on getting his way.

yes, anonymous, we are living in a dictatorship for those who are too overworked or too complacent or not paying attention to realize. i do not know who of the available candidates can make a difference. it is unbelievable to me that anyone would support an idiot like giuliani or romney or even now mccain who i at one time thought was a good candidate; do you realize these are your neighbors? i know that mr. george w. bush, richard cheney, karl rove and the whole bunch, gonzales, and most of our congress including democrats and republicans will literally have hell to pay in the end; i am not a traditional believer but i do believe in justice. i have seen justice in my time. god does give us a mind to use, we must use it all the time, mention your thoughts to everyone you see, wake them up, be kind, appreciate they may be wondering if they can pay their bills or when their job might go overseas or to mexico or south america. do not at any cost give up hope, we will prevail of that i am sure. hillary? i do not think so, bill clinton, i now see him turning tail about this war, too, pay attention to his speeches. edwards? maybe. kucinich? yes, but can he prevail? i pray that he does, he may be our hope and other like minded souls. dodd? maybe, he has some credibility. pelosi? what happened to her? they do not have to even submit a bill for funding, that stops it right there.

I couldn't agree more that this is, indeed, our darkest hour. Never before has an election been more critical. But it's not just about the war. So many things have gone wrong with our country. And so many of us have stood by and let it happen. We did not heed our forefathers warnings. I've been a Democrat for 37 years, although I vote my conscience. I've watched and grown more disappointed with each passing election. Always the best of two evils. Never a candidate for the people, for us and our constitution. Now a man stands amongst us who has always voted for us and our constitution. I ask each of you, please check out Ron Paul, one of the signers of this bill. He has supported us in the face of great ridicule. He holds to the constitution. His actions and how he votes in congress always coincide with his belief in us and our constitution. You will not hear much about him from the mainstream media. They do not want you to know he is winning straw poll after straw poll. And his supporters grow. His odds 4 months ago were 400 to 1. His odds now are 8 to 1. Please check out what he stands for and what he says. And if you find he stands for what you believe in, please vote for Ron Paul for president in 2008.

He is 100% correct, Ron Paul scares the CRAP outta the "Establiment" in DC, hes also the ONLY Candidate ( on either side ) that will bring them home period, no time table, no strings, and I quote "We Marched Right into Iraq, So We can just March right out" . If you do a little research on him you see he want to bring ALL of our troops home, from ALL countries....

his message is "Freedom, Personal Liberty, and sticking to the Constitution" period! this should appeal to Dems, Indies & Repubs who are not happy with Bush & Cheney Co.

Also rememeber that of ALL the Pres candidates Only Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich & Mike Gravel are NOT CFR Memembers..and because of that they dont get MSM air time.

www.ronpaul2008.com or www.dailypaul.com for more info

Paul has the power to win for all, he can do it, he's the reagan of us.

Thanks for the Congress,Men's and Women's for standing against this President on the Iraq invasion, but the American Peoples want this Administration Impeached, and Now.It is sicking to see these Radicals now resigning like Carl Rove, and Alberta Gonzales, and others after taking part in damageing America almost beyond repair,in relationship to our image around the World,I don't even want to Mention what damage has been done to our own Country with all the boggus policies, and B.S Laws now.

What a bunch of transparent bullshit. They can write letters until their hands fall off. It will accomplish NOTHING. They're only doing it so they can claim they were doing the right thing when they're up for re-election.

It's no different than voting to pass a bill that they know is already defeated before the vote is even taken, so they can say to their constituents "I voted for that. Unfortunately, it didn't pass...."

Why aren't all those names signed onto the Articles of Impeachment against Cheney? These people are pathetic.

I can't wait to see their spineless response to today's Washington Post story:
"Bush administration officials unveiled a bold new assertion of executive authority yesterday in the dispute over the firing of nine U.S. attorneys, saying that the Justice Department will never be allowed to pursue contempt charges initiated by Congress against White House officials once the president has invoked executive privilege."

I suppose they could surprise me. But I'm not holding my breath.

Bet there is not a single Blue Dog (Republican) democrat on the list.

My Congressman, Dave Loebsack (D-IA) says he signed on to this on Monday, September 10, 2007.

America! We have to
The American Soldier
We have to remember these soldiers are fighting for this country-fighting and being accused for you and me.
Our soldiers are dropped into Iraq behind enemy lines-as soon as the enemy complains, we charge our own soldiers with a crime.
Our soldiers are scared as they go thru-trying to protect this country for me and you.
As soon as the enemy complains about some act-the TV and newspaper, spread empty so called facts.
They spread gossip that shouldn’t be-we have to stop this travesty.
This is false gossip about our fellow man-our soldier are going thru hell to protect this land.
Struggling because Americans are hated so much-so to live our soldiers have to be tough.
Our soldiers are only earthly man-missing they’re children in these foreign lands.
In Iraq children are the enemy-coming up on a soldier acting so innocently.
A soldier can never drop they’re guard-and for soldiers with kids it has to be hard.
It’s hard to separate themselves from the human soul as they do-our soldiers cant stop the human being inside as he fights for you and me.
What are they to do; empty they’re souls-allow the humanity in them to run cold.
This is why so many die-because they don’t act before they’re souls ask why.
They know they’re hesitation can get others killed-come on these are American soldiers they hurt, they feel.
They pray for the enemies heart each day-hoping something different will come they’re way.
Lets remember they’re actions are to protect you- we got to believe in our soldiers, America! we have to. 9/18/07-7:40am

I do believe in our soldiers its the phony war we're in that i don't support and by the way why don't you take some grammar lessons your post makes no sense whatsoever

i think we have a Red Neck in the Compound - set phazerrs for stun!
Uhhhhhh These soldiers - who do they belong to?
The 'travesty' is that this is an Illegal Invasion and Illegal Occupation and the soldiers are wasting our/Americas time, money and blood>>> for oil = you idiot. Why the hell arn't you over there if it means so damn much to you or are you just a coward chicken hawk like the rest of your Republican Party?

Go Darwin! I am proud to know vets who stand against this illegal war!

this war has nothing to do with protecting us...the American citizen...the war has never been linked to a threat against US....this is a war to secure control of a very lucrative area and resource...it is in response to lobbies from huge business conglomorates and other countries who have a like interest in the area ....namely Israel.........we are supporting our troops by calling for a return to US soil where they can truely be used to defend what is ours...the US.....they are being used by this administration, their backers (billion dollar corporations) and Israel lobby to exert control over the Middle East...take the blinders off and educate yourselves on what is really happening....by the way, the mainstream media is controlled by the administration and huge corporations...check out their ownership.....

Disgusted with those who don't make up their own minds .....

this thing has a majority.

But of course Pelosi, Hoyer, Emanuel and Van Hollen - and oh yes, BUSH have not signed on. IMPEACHMENT is the only legitimate action for these yahoos! Please give up this posturing and cut to the
g--d---ed chase!!!

But, just incase that's not it, what are you talking about? We remember the end of our involvement in Vietnam. So, we feel badly about the troops who were harassed by protesters, and the civilians who got killed even after we left. We've learned from the past.

Did you see anyone here actually saying, "dang the president has such a worthwile and noble policy, but our useless - untrustworthy - troops refuse to implement it?" NO. We are about addressing the serious flaws in the logic that is keeping us involved in this war, impeaching the "leaders" who lied us into the war. Supporting the troops means bringing them home.

No one here is accusing the soldires of anything. Think again, that's Bush whenever he needs a scapegoat.

drop 9 fat boys and no more worries.very simple oh, i forget you and your kind cant be mean to people who wants to hurt us.

Sir, You Are A Piece of Whale Shit in The Deepest Part of The Ocean...
It is not hard to see you are not An American Vet... So, You & The Ass You Rode In On Go Get F_ _ _ED!!!
Dr. Joe Frazier

So we are supposed to get excited about a resolution to bring the troops home by 2009? We are supposed to rewire our simple little minds for this cynicle little trick and instead of "bring the troops home now" or mantra is to be bring the troops home by 2009...incidently timed after the next elections. And then in 2009 we once again realize we have been had and the time table is extended to 2011. By that time we are at war with Iran, Syria and who knows who else. REJECT THIS TRICK AND REJECT THE CURRENT WASHINGTON ESTABLISHMENT. OUT OF IRAQ AND AHFGANISTAN NOW NOT 2009 AND DEFINATELY NOT AFTER THE NEXT ELECTION GIVING THESE CON AND NEOCON ARTIST COVER.

AMERICA BETTER WAKE UP, OUR HOLD GOVERNMENT IS BEING RUN BY THE CFR,COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS, AND THE GLOBAL ELITE, TRILATERAL COMMISSION. HERES WHAT DIANNE TRILATERAL COMMISSION MEMBER FEINSTEIN SAID ITS TO CLOSE TO THE PRIMARY'S TO VOTE FOR A BILL THAT MAKE PAPER TRAIL VOTING MANDATORY. SHE SAID WE ARE BETTER WAITING UNTIL 2010 ELECTION TO PASS A BILL. HERE WE GO AGAIN THE GLOBALIST ARE IN CONTROL OF OUR CONGRESS, ALL THE TOP TIER CANDIDATES FROM BOTH PARTY'S EITHER MEMBERS OF CFR, OR ARE BOUGH AND PAYED FOR BY THE GLOBAL ELITE.AND NOW WITHOUT
NATIONAL PAPER TRAIL VOTING,THIS 2008 ELECTION IS A FIXED GAME, AND THE CFR CONTROLLED MEDIA IS LETTING THE AMERICAN VOTERS "THINK" THEY CAN PLAY. SO WHAT DOSE SIGNING A LETTER TO BUSH DO. DO YOU THINK HE REALLY CARES,OIL, MONEY, AND POWER,HE AND ELITIST,THE PEOPLE MEAN NOTHING. THE ONE WHO CAN STOP THIS MADNESS IS RON PAUL, AT LEST HE'S NOT MEMBER OF THE CFR OR TC, THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE GAMING OF THE VOTING MACHINES. WITHOUT A PAPER TRAIL AMERICA IS SCREWED.

Your and my constitutuion mandates constructive action against those who defile or trample on the constitution, and it's called IMPEACHMENT of those responsible. Cheney and bush have grossly violated the constitution and the laws of the land. the IMPEACHMENT proceedings should begin immediately unless we want another war in Iran or, as bush said, a third world war. INITIATE IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PRECLLUDE ANOTHER WAR.
